Endodontics

When it comes to endodontic treatment, root canal treatment usually comes to mind. Nowadays, root canal treatment is performed in one session for living teeth and in two sessions for teeth that have lost their vitality.

Bacteria combine with many nutrients that we have ingested, causing acids to form in our mouth. If we cannot remove these acids from our mouth, these substances damage the enamel and cause caries to form in the enamel layer. If the caries formed in the enamel is not treated, it passes to the dentin layer under the enamel layer.

Although the dentin layer warns us through pain, if the caries formed is not treated again, this time microorganisms move towards the pulp. The pulp engages various shapes to protect itself. One of them is to warn us through pain. But if the tooth is not treated, after a while, microorganisms destroy the vessels and nerves in the pulp, causing inflammation to occur.

Another reason for the formation of inflammation in the pulp are traumas. A blow to the tooth can cause the vessels and nerves that enter the root of the tooth from the tip of the root to break off, thereby losing the vitality of the tooth. Another way in which the pulp can become infected is the presence of long-term periodontal (gum and surrounding) disease around the tooth.

In case of pain and sensitivity to cold and hot foods and drinks in the tooth, pain that occurs during eating food, inflammation and the onset of inflammation can be mentioned. In addition, in teeth where caries reaches the pulp, but is not treated, the infection goes from the tip of the root to the jawbone, and the location can cause small or large bumps on the face. In this case, in addition to the procedures performed by the dentist in the fight against infection, the use of antibiotics is also appropriate.

The general opinion is that the tooth that forms a skewer on the face should be pulled out after the skewer has landed. However, this is a very old thought. Even teeth that cause such major infections can be kept in the mouth by root canal treatment, and this tooth can serve you for years, just like a healthy tooth.

After root canal treatment, the relationship between the tooth and the tissues is interrupted, so that the infection does not occur again, and if there is damage to the tissues of the tooth, it is aimed to repair it.
